Mónico Sanabria Mercado. PhD He was born in Mayagüez on October 2, 1957. He studied primary and secondary grades in public schools of the town of San Germán and graduated from High School in 1976.
Sanabria completed a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in History and a second concentration in Secondary Education from the Inter-American University, San Germán Campus in 1980. In August of that year, he began working as a History teacher at the Inmaculada Concepción Academy in Mayagüez. . While teaching, he studied for an elementary school teacher certification at the Mayagüez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico. Later, he took courses on computer programming and use at the Universidad Interamericana, San Germán Campus.
From 1990 to 1993 he completed a Master's Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Ponce. With this preparation, he went on to occupy the position of Principal at the elementary level of the Inmaculada Concepción de Mayagüez Academy in 1993. In 1998, he began doctoral studies in Educational Management at the Metropolitan Campus of the Inter-American University. While serving as Principal of the Immaculate, he was selected to participate as a member of the committees in the processes of Accreditation of schools of the Middle States Association in distinguished private schools in the Metropolitan area.
In 1999 he started as a School Director in the Department of Education, in the Second Bartolomé Javier Petrovitch Unit in Puerto Real, Cabo Rojo. He later directed the Pedro Fidel Colberg School, also in the town of Cabo Rojo. While working as a school principal, he completed a doctorate in Educational Management and began working in 2004 as a part-time professor at the Mayagüez Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica.
As a University Professor, he offered graduate-level courses in the Educational Management and Leadership program at the Pontificia Universidad Católica, Mayagüez Campus. There he directed for 10 years the training program for school principals and the internship in Educational Management and Leadership. As a University professor he began to work in doctoral dissertation committees at the San Germán Campus of the Inter-American University and at the Ponce Campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de PR. In 2009 he began offering part-time master's and doctoral courses at the San Germán Campus of the Inter-American University. During these years he served in the direction of schools in the Department of Education and in the university chair part-time. While serving as Director of schools in the public system, he was selected to participate as a member of the committees in the Accreditation processes of the General Council of Education. He participated in the accreditation of public schools in the southern area of Puerto Rico and also participated in the focus groups in the Department of Education for the writing of the circular letter of Professional Internship for teachers and for the development of the Professional Profile of the School Director.
In 2014 he began working as a full-time professor at the Graduate School of Education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus and held the positions of Coordinator of the Master's Programs and Coordinator of the Doctoral Program. Currently he is the Director of the Graduate School of Education. He also teaches courses at the doctoral level in the Area of Educational Management and chairs doctoral dissertation committees. He holds the rank of Associate Professor. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. At the request of the Department of Education, he participated in the drafting of the Regulations for boarding schools (clinical experience in education) for the area of Educational Management, as a requirement of Law no. 129 of August 5, 2016, Law to Regulate the Program of Educational Clinical Experiences of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico.
In the research area, the areas of interest are organizational behavior and generational groups. At the moment Sanabria finished and is in the process of submitting for publication the investigation Generational profile, attitudes and expectations of university students. He has also published articles related to education and educational management in the New Day.
